One of the most difficult things I've had to do as a mother . . .

was fix Claire's hair the way she had had it in a dream. She described it and explained it, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get it to defy gravity and do exactly as she had dreamt of.

We finally compromised for a crown braid.
