The Injured One

As many know, Claire tumbled last Sunday, ending up in the ER and being transferred via ambulance to a better pediatrics hospital for an overnight stay. After poking both hands and a foot to try to get an IV in, they decided to do an IO where they drill into her leg bone to give her some pain killer. We had to step out of the room for that, and it was painful to hear her cry. According to the CT scan, she had a parietal skull fracture and a little bleeding underneath the skull. The doctors weren't too concerned with the fracture because her skull is pretty much suturing away right now anyway. The main concern was the bleeding. So they kept monitors on her all night as she slept away in her hospital crib and me on the couch/bed. In the morning, her second CT scan came back and they said it looked like there was no more more bleeding, and as long as she was acting okay, she was okay. Well, she was just smiling and laughing, rolling over, and sucking on wires and toes (her own). Plus she still had that stinky gas (a sure sign she was okay!). She has not been fussy or grumpy or anything since Monday. (Is it possible the morphine has lasted this long???) She's been great. And there haven't been any signs to worry about. It has been a great blessing.
Here are some pictures of her swollen head. I don't know if the camera really captures the full effect of what she looked like.

And here is what she looks like now. The swelling has gone down completely, and there is only a light green bruise down her left cheek. If you didn't know anything had happened, you wouldn't even be able to tell.
Here are some pictures of Summer painting. She had a good time (especially sliding around the bathtub in it).

Britt,

Claire looks so much like you in her little fuzzy yellow outfit. She is definitely yours! I can definitely see a resemblance between her and Noah too in the first two pics. Especially with that face she's pulling. I'm glad everything is okay! We have been praying for her and the rest of the fam! Sure love you and miss you!!

Glad to hear all is well. I total understand the whole head swelling thing. It is amazing how fast kids can rebound.
